Windows 8 is the start of a whole new product cycle, so it is good to get in on the ground floor. One of its newest and most attractive features is its new improved touch-screen software. That is why apps for Windows mobile devices are likely to become very popular in the near future. You should try a few of these if you want to take advantage of Windows 8 right now.

Skype

This app is not available for Windows 8, and its introduction was inevitable since it is currently very popular. You can use the app on a tablet or a phone and connect to other people over the Internet. It allows you to use your video camera on your mobile device to allow people to see and hear you over the Internet.

You should expect more of this in the near future, because many people are predicting that the new Windows OS will start a trend for cross compatibly and synergy with a lot of devices and desktop computers. This app is a feed reader. The feeds run down the left of the screen, and the text in hosted in a larger pane on the right. All you need to do is press the feed you want to read and it pops up on the right. The tiles that you tap are very easy to use.

Star Chart

This is a great app for Windows 8 because it allows you to see the Windows 8 full-screen mode. You can explore the night sky (even in the day) by aiming your device into the sky. It will show you what is up in the sky. It does not actually show you the sky itself; it simply lays a star chart over the screen, which shows you things that are in the sky. It gives you the name of planets and will even show you the constellations and their names.

Cocktail Flow

This is an app that allows you to concoct or copy cocktails. The reason that this app gets a mention is because you can input all of the spirits and drinks that you have in your kitchen, and it will search through a list of cocktails to tell you what you can make with what you have.

Chimpact

This is a great little game for people with a Windows 8 mobile device. You have to catapult a monkey around a number of levels in order to collect bananas, avoid enemies and squash caterpillars. It is a combination between a platform game and the Angry Birds game. You use the catapult in the same way that you do on the Angry Birds, where you press on the catapult and then pull it back. You raise your finger from the screen in order to release the catapult and send the monkey flying through the air.

Fresh Paint

The windows software has helped to make touch screen technology even more accurate. That is why you should try this app. It allows you to paint on a canvas with a very nice feeling of authenticity. The software allows you to paint on colors and mix them as if you were using real paint. The colors even bleed into each other for a more authentic feel. You can even switch on a dryer that will dry the paint so that you do not mix up any of your colors on the canvas.

Xbox SmartGlass

As odd as it sounds, you can turn your Windows tablet into an Xbox controller. This app allows you to use a tablet to control the characters on a computer game. But, that is not where it stops, as it also allows you to control other things that your Xbox can do, including allowing you to navigate through the little mini-menus on the games console.
