With under 30 days to go until the Olympic torch is passed for the final time, social media is full of mentions about the biggest sporting competition on the planet. Fans from all the world’s nations, nation-states, and even micro-states are excited to see their athletes compete. This analysis shows that, despite this being such an engaging event, much of the coverage is on Twitter and blogs, which both are less engaging than Facebook. It remains to be seen whether tweets will evolve into deeper engagement on Facebook or if the conversation will stay on Twitter.
